There are worm facts and then there is recycled worm information, largely sourced from the web that may or may not be quite right. Many scientific facts about worms follow below, along with first hand observations based on many years of hands on experience farming worms on a commercial scale.. One of the most rewarding things about farming worms is the continual lessons and surprises that they provide. Even after 20 years of worm farming there isn’t a week that goes by that doesn’t teach us something new.

Observations Worms consume at least half of their body weight in organic waste every day Worms reduce the volume of organic waste by at least 90% Worms are as sensitive to vibrations as they are to light Worms will reproduce at higher rates when they are very happy or very stressed There are individual worms that are more likely to explore than stay put Large worm farms can handle citrus, meat, dairy products and acidic food. However as a general rule the smaller the worm farm, the more particular the farmer should be with the food waste fed to worms. |
